Production of Low Cost Equipment

Stepping Stone CBR Centre (Ipoh) of YSIS specializes in the making of low cost equipment. The staff of YSIS who have been specially trained involve in the making of such equipment. Student trainees participating in the CBR Skills Training undergo a session in learning the art of making such materials and equipments for similar use at the centres they come from. Among equipment produced are:

Corner Chair
Provides a change of posture to sitting and enable functional activities like feeding, watching TV, plat etc. Adaptable piece may be added for foot, head or trunk support.

Jumping Corset
Balancing in the air. Reduces hyper activeness and head control.

Wheel Chair
Adaptation With a tabletop to provide table activities for feeding, foot rest and proper positioning of leg.

Bean Bag
Provides stable position (depending on how the bean bag is "moulded" to accommodate). Versatile, for use to position clients in sitting, prone or side lying.

Wedge
To stimulate head and neck activities (stimulation), in prone position, posture drainage and creeping up. Size of wedges varies.

Bolster
Prone position. To encourage head control. Sitting balance and to prevent scissoring. Trunk activities and all 4 limb functions.

Standing Frame
Strengthening of lower limbs. To improve standing balance, weight bearing/ circulation. Use of standing frame when doing classroom activities, play and table activities.

Balancing Board
Sitting and standing balance.
